Three relaxed days to understand your brain, build confidence and meet other kids who get it
July 28th-30th
1.30pm-4.30pm
Growing up neurodivergent can sometimes leave children feeling as though everyone else received an instruction manual that they missed.
Understanding My Brain helps young people make sense of how their own minds work - without suggesting that there is anything wrong with them or anything that needs to be “fixed.”
Across three relaxed online afternoons, we bring together all six sessions from our popular Understanding My Brain programme. Young people explore their strengths, friendships, stress, sensory experiences, executive functioning and how to communicate their needs. All with the support of our fully neurodivergent team of young adult mentors.
โ
But camp is about more than learning. With the same small group together for three days, there is much more time to play, laugh, discover shared experiences and begin forming genuine connections with other neurodivergent young people.
And those opportunities to connect do not stop when camp finishes. Every camper also receives free access to the Uncommon community throughout the summer, giving them more time to join activities, reconnect with familiar faces and experience the lovely sense of belonging that can grow from being part of a community where they feel understood.
3 days of camp and a summer of fun!
Every camp includes online community access and 6 free club sessions

Why our UMB camp works so effectively
Our UMB camp takes our best-selling course and delivers it as a three-day camp - cominging psycho-education and peer support - the two most effective, evidence-backed techniques for supporting neurodivergent young people.
๐ง Psycho-Education helps teens understand their unique brains through fun, interactive sessions.
โ
Research shows that improving young people's understanding of neurodivergent traits through psychology and neuroscience education, can improved self-esteem, reduce anxiety, and enhanced mental health.
๐ค Peer Support enable young people to share their experiences, so they don't feel alone in their experiences.
โ
Evidence shows that engaging with understanding peers (peer support) improves social satisfaction, increases self-acceptance, and a sense of belonging.
What our families say
Honestly it’s briliant. My son enjoyed being able to hear from people who shared some of his experiences and to be able to interact in real time. He also enjoyed just having an hour a week, with me by his side, to explore who he is in a safe space.

"My daughter likes the mic and camera off format. It means a lot to have ND presenters who talk about their experiences. She likes the strengths-based approach and the neurocats."
Is this camp right for my child?
Every neurodivergent child is different. But if yours often finds it hard to navigate friendships, manage overwhelming feelings, or understand why certain situations feel so much harder for them than for others - this camp was designed with them in mind.
โ
Understanding My Brain is a space where young people aged 8–13 can explore how their minds work, without judgment and without pressure. If your child has ever felt like they don't quite fit in, this is a place where they will.
โ
Camps are kept deliberately small, and your child can join with camera on or off, mic on or off, or simply by watching and using the text channel. How they participate can change from session to session - whatever feels right on the day is absolutely fine.
โ
With the same small group together for three days, there is much more time to play, laugh, discover shared experiences and begin forming genuine connections with other neurodivergent young people.
โ
What will my child learn?
โCamp includes six interactive Understanding My Brain learning sessions.
โ
Celebrating my strengths
We begin by exploring what neurodivergence means and recognising the interests, qualities and strengths that make each young person uniquely themselves.
โ
Understanding stress
Young people learn why neurodivergent brains can become overloaded, how stress might show up for them and some simple ways to help their minds and bodies feel safer and calmer.
โ
Navigating friendships
We explore what makes a good friend, the different ways people show that they care and how neurodivergent communication and friendship styles can vary.
โ
Exploring sensory differences
Young people think about how they experience sound, light, touch, movement and internal body signals -and begin identifying what helps them feel comfortable and regulated.
โ
Understanding executive functioning
We explore why starting, stopping, planning, remembering, transitioning and tracking time can sometimes be difficult, before sharing practical ideas that work with neurodivergent brains rather than against them.
โ
Communicating my needs
Finally, young people bring everything they have learned together and explore ways to tell parents, teachers and other trusted adults what helps them participate, learn and feel safe.
โ
Three days of camp.
A whole summer of community.

Find your people this summer
Camp is just the beginning. Every Uncommon camper gets access to our safe, neurodivergent-affirming summer community — a place to keep creating, playing, sharing and connecting after camp ends.
โ
๐ Find your people
Meet other young people who share your interests, humour, creativity and ways of communicating.
โ
๐จ Keep creating & playing
Join weekly gaming and social time in our Tuesday 6pm Video Gamers Community Club, take part in summer polls, Book Nook, exhibitions, sticker competitions and themed activities around characters, animals and adventures.
โจ Take on creative challenges
Every fortnight, we’ll release a new creative brief with inspiration and ideas to help young people keep making and sharing across the summer.
๐ Try more clubs
Campers also get two free Uncommon club sessions, so they can explore new activities or reconnect with familiar faces after camp.
โ
Young people can join in as much or as little as they like — whether that means sharing a creation, voting in a poll, joining a game, trying a club or quietly spending time in a community where they feel understood.

Camp is just the beginning.
For many neurodivergent young people, open-ended social groups can feel difficult.
Being told to “make friends” or “join in” can create pressure, especially if conversation does not come easily or past social experiences have been hard.
Understanding My Brain gives everyone something shared to focus on.
Young people can connect by playing the same game, helping each other, showing what they have made, laughing at funny moments or discovering that someone else loves the same thing they do.
They do not have to start with small talk. They can start with play.
โ
But we know that friendships and belonging rarely appear fully formed after one Zoom session — or even after three days.
โ
That is why Understanding My Brain campers also receive access to the wider Uncommon summer community after camp.
โ
This includes:
• Our weekly gaming and social club
• Summer community activities and creative challenges
• A safe online space to share interests, ideas and creations
• Free Uncommon club sessions after camp
• Opportunities to keep connecting with young people who share their interests
For children who have found other groups difficult, having a place where their interests are understood and their way of joining in is respected can be incredibly powerful.
